About

sufiphilosophy.org is an independent, non-commercial resource dedicated to making the philosophical and intellectual heritage of Tasawwuf freely accessible to the entire world: clearly written, properly sourced, and available in every language without barriers.

Why This Exists

Tasawwuf is one of the richest intellectual and spiritual traditions humanity has produced. It has given the world some of its deepest poetry, its most sophisticated psychology of the self, and its most refined metaphysics. Yet for most people, this tradition remains either inaccessible behind academic paywalls and specialist vocabulary, or distorted by superficial popular treatments that strip it of its Islamic roots.

This project exists to close that gap. Inspired by the words of Seyyid Harun Veli, a 14th-century Sufi of Konya:

“Hak yolu kimseden diriğ değildir”

“Truth is withheld from no one”

Every article on this site is written to be understood by a general reader without sacrificing scholarly depth. The language is clear. The sources are classical. The tradition is presented as it understands itself: the inner dimension of Islam, not a separate religion or a vague spirituality.

From Konya to the World

This project is built in Konya, Turkey, the city where Rumi lived, taught, and was buried. The city where Sadr al-Din al-Qunawi systematized the metaphysics of Ibn Arabi. The city where the Mevlevi tradition transformed philosophy into art, music, and embodied practice. Tasawwuf is not an abstract subject for us. It is the living culture of our city.

That local rootedness drives a global ambition: to make this tradition accessible in every language, to every person who seeks it. The site currently serves readers in English, Turkish, German, French, and Spanish, with more languages in development.

Approach

All content is grounded in primary sources and classical scholarship. Articles draw on the original works of the masters discussed, established commentarial traditions, and recognized academic research. The editorial approach prioritizes depth, accuracy, and intellectual honesty.

The site covers the full breadth of the Sufi tradition: its teachers from Hasan al-Basri to Imam Rabbani, its orders from the Mevlevi to the Shadhili, its practices from dhikr to muraqaba, its metaphysics from tawhid to wahdat al-wujud. No single school or tariqa is privileged. The goal is a comprehensive, faithful representation of the tradition as a whole.

What This Site Is Not

This site is not a fatwa authority or a substitute for qualified religious scholarship. It is not affiliated with any particular tariqa or spiritual organization. It is a scholarly and educational resource for anyone in the world who wants to understand the intellectual heritage of the Sufi tradition, presented with the care and respect that heritage deserves.
